As far as limousine companies go there are many in operation in this country. You can look up the category in your phone book and literally see thousands. The question comes up: which one do you go with? Surely you want to get a good price but you also want a company who is obviously trustworthy and offers great service. There exists many “mom and pops” operations going around, and many of them are less than professional, so lets talk about several points you want to look at contracting a limousine rental business.
For starters you can save yourself a lot of time by checking potential companies out at the better business bureau. Keep in mind that just because a company is not listed here does not mean they are not reputable. While the BBB is a great resource they do however charge close to $500 to be listed in their directory. Many businesses do not want to pay that fee. Nevertheless, its an excellent place to start and you can see other previous customer’s reviews of a certain limo service provider.
Check out the fleet of a limo company. A professional one will not have vehicles over ten years old. The really good ones will have vehicles no more than five years old. This is why you do not want to just look at price. You might get bargain basement deals from one company but you are going to riding around in 1989 Ford Limo and the paint could be fading away. As with most services, but especially limo companies, you need to tapper your desire for a good deal with the quality of their equipment and drivers.
In every state these companies have to be licensed by some sort of regulating agency of the state or city. The majority of the time its from the Department of Transportation or Motor Vehicles. These agencies make the driver’s take a background check and also male certain all their limousine companies have adequate insurance (usually at least a one million dollar liability policy) and the all the vehicles are registered properly.
As far as price goes this can vary dramatically. Your average limo company will have a decent vehicle, a good driver, and offer complementary drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Their driver should be wearing a uniform at all times. If you see a diver dressed up in jeans and a tee-shirt you know that you have chosen the wrong company. The low end is $40 an hour, the average end is $80-$90 an hour, and the well established companies who are high end costs $120-$130 an hour. The high end companies should have fleets like Lincoln, Escalade, and Hummer limos.
Like a taxi cab driver he should also know the city really well and be well versed in how from point A to point B throughout the city the fastest and most efficient way possible. This is especially so if they are getting paid per hour versus for a whole day or week.
Keep in mind that adding anything to the outside of the limousine will increase the price a little. Signs that say “Just Married,” balloons, ribbons with the cans attached, flowers, horns, or anything ornamental add to the price. It should not be significant. Make sure you ask in advance just to make sure.
Doing your homework on a prospective limousine rental company is a really smart and wise thing to do. There are a lot of shady businesses out there who hire untrained drivers, offer cheap services, or have less than satisfactory vehicles. Stay away from these people. On the other hand there are a lot of good up front businesses out there that will make renting in a limo a very pleasurable experience. Find these companies and you will have memories that you will have for years to come.
